Candle Care Tips and Safety

Candles can create a warm and inviting atmosphere in any space. However, to enjoy them safely and ensure they last, it's important to follow proper care and safety practices. Here are some essential tips:

1. Trim the Wick
- Before lighting your candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch. This helps prevent the flame from getting too large and producing excess soot.

2. Burn for an Even Pool
- On the first burn, let the candle melt across the entire surface. This helps prevent tunneling, where the candle burns down the middle and leaves wax around the sides.

3. Keep the Wax Pool Clean
- Regularly remove any debris, like wick trimmings or matches, from the wax pool to prevent uneven burning and sooting.

4. Avoid Drafts
- Place your candle away from vents, fans, or open windows to ensure an even burn and prevent smoking or flickering.

5. Use a Candle Snuffer
- Extinguish your candle with a snuffer rather than blowing it out to prevent wax splatter and minimize smoke.

6. Store Properly
- Keep candles in a cool, dark place to prevent discoloration and fading of scent. Avoid storing them in areas that get direct sunlight.

7. Rotate Your Candles
- If you have multiple candles, rotate their use to ensure the even burning and longevity of each candle.

Candle Safety Tips

1. Never Leave a Burning Candle Unattended
- Always stay in the room where your candle is burning. Extinguish it if you leave the room or go to sleep.

2. Keep Away from Flammable Objects
- Place candles at least 12 inches away from anything that can catch fire, like curtains, books, or decorations.

3. Use Stable Surfaces
- Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface to prevent tipping over.

4. Keep Out of Reach of Children and Pets
- Ensure that candles are placed in areas where children and pets cannot reach or knock them over.

5. Use Proper Candle Holders
- Use holders that are specifically designed for candles. They should be heat-resistant and sturdy enough to contain any melted wax.

6. Don't Burn to the Bottom
- Stop burning your candle when about 1/2 inch of wax remains. Burning to the very bottom can cause the container to overheat and crack.

7. Ventilate the Room
- Make sure your room is well-ventilated but free of strong drafts to avoid uneven burning and potential fire hazards.

8. Follow Manufacturer’s Instructions
- Adhere to the burning instructions provided by the candle manufacturer for optimal use and safety.

By following these care and safety tips, you can enjoy your candles to their fullest while ensuring a safe environment in your home.
